The Editor and The Poet
Huis Winkel is a household name. It can be found all over the place: on the TV series “Vikings”, on the internet, and even in an audio book. Its fame is simply astounding.
Born in Horsens, Denmark, in 1856, Harald Huiswerk began writing poetry and prose as a teenager. A poet by trade, he was more interested in playing around with words and keeping a fresh perspective on poetry’s medium than actually producing new poems. Writing for the print media left little impression on him.
After a few years of inspiration, he found the needle in his own eye. He was composing verse that he felt he’d never be able to reproduce. In his despair, he simply left the craft behind and headed for Europe. When he returned to Denmark in 1902, he soon started writing poetry again.
He was soon struck by a new interest: literary and modern poetry. He began writing essays for his mother, but when she encouraged him to publish his work, he finally decided to try to create a new literary movement.
His first novel was merely the simple instructions manual for a typewriter. But the public response to his second novel was such that he soon moved ahead with his goal of making a modern housebound novel. It is called “Huis Winkel: Conversations with the Dutch”, and it remains a bestseller until this day.
In the book, there are many passages that are about human beings trying to fit into a rigid society while men work around them and manipulate them. These are the same topics that he discussed in his earlier books. Huis Winkel: Conversations with the Dutch is still considered his masterpiece.
“Huis Winkel: Conversations with the Dutch” has not changed in terms of content or style since it was first published. Unlike other books of his, it doesn’t break any new ground.
One reason why Huis Winkel: Conversations with the Dutch is still popular today is the fact that it tackles several subjects that are still controversial today. Other people, though, do like this book for its honesty in matters of lifestyle.
For instance, there is a scene where a common man tries to plan a vacation to the Bahamas. An author and a creative editor came up with a plan to provide a solution to these common travelers. It’s called “The Spa-Room Plan,” and it makes a very amusing story.
But Huis Winkel does write a lot about literature. He even writes about “the absolute truth”, “the mystery of life,” and “human nature.” His books on the subject matter, which include The Origin of the Species, are still well-liked today.
People who have read “Huis Winkel: Conversations with the Dutch” appreciate the candor of the author, because Huis Winkel is very honest about the fact that he’s just a guy with a book. His book contains everything you could ever want to know about being a writer, including how to take care of a family, how to write an interesting book, and how to make money with your writing.
To say that someone is a writer, though, is a difficult task. People who have written for a living would be reluctant to suggest that anyone else should write as long as they’ve been doing it. But Huis Winkel, the Danish poet, does it.
